December 2009
So many stories to tell. Some are as short as a joke, others are as long as a life-time. Some are whispered in the kitchen, others told or sung with gusto from a stage. Holidays are especially good times for sharing stories with family and friends. Often when folks gather together they're fond of remembering the old days and are filled with the nostalgia of lessons learned, wanting younger ears to hear and heed the advice. I've learned that it pays to listen.
My first Adirondack story was written years ago in a foreign land. It was a song about my grandfather that longed for the life we each experienced on the same piece of land but never shared at the same time. It's a story I've retold in various settings to different audiences large and small. I'm grateful to my elders who retold stories often enough for me to remember them; grateful for friends and family who fill my life with new stories and new hope; grateful for the spirit which is music.
Thanks for stopping by. If you're interested in having me sing, present a program, perform for your organization, or send a CD to your radio station, click here. May health and happiness follow you into the new year.
Holiday Haiku
Friends make us grateful
Like the shepherds and wise men
Choosing to be there
Darkness is a threat
Only when there's no hope left
Of returning light
Deeds performed daily
Grow out of love, dreams, service
Thoughts become action
