March 2007
Between the Saints: You could think of it as the longest month of the year or the home stretch of winter. I'm talking about the four weeks between St. Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. Treat yourself to a few verses of When Spring Comes from the album ROOTED IN THE MOUNTAINS.
Snow banks melt, geese are on the wing
When spring comes, spring comes
Dandelions bloom and robins sing
When the spring it does come in
Days are longer, short are the nights
It's time to remove the Christmas lights
Oh, springtime has come
The date on the calendar means it's time
When spring comes, spring comes
But the shadow I saw last month wasn't mine
When the spring it does come in
Take your long underwear to the attic in a box
Run naked through the woods on the equinox
Oh, springtime has come
It's been a winter of bizarre weather: from the snow storm that hit Buffalo at the beginning of October to the warmest January in recent history around here to the 12 feet of snow dumped on Oswego County in February. Global warming raises the base line so that deviations from the norm are more deviant. Want to do something about it?
Power from Above will be on my lips April 14th, 2007. I'll be singing it in Saratoga Springs as part of National Day of Climate Action. Please join with folks in your community as people all over the country will ask their Representatives and Senators to DO SOMETHING! "Step it up, Congress! Enact immediate cuts in carbon emissions, and pledge an 80% reduction by 2050. No half measures, no easy compromises - the time has come to take the real actions that can stabilize our climate."
To find an event near you, or to start one, go to - www.stepitup2007.org You'll also be able to hear a variety of Climate Tunes on the site, including Power from Above. Or if you'd like, you can write and submit your own song to - www.coolourplanet.org/muse/
As we come out of hibernation, I hope to see you at a concert soon. In the meantime, here are some other things you can do to help reduce carbon emissions - for your sake and the sake of the planet, our only home.
Turn off or unplug electronic devices when not in use
Change incandescent light bulbs to flourescent
Check your tire pressure
Drive less, drive slower
Adjust your thermostat
Use less hot water
Recycle more
Plant a tree
