My first Adirondack story was written years ago in a foreign land. It was a song about my grandfather that longed for the life we each experienced on the same piece of land but never shared at the same time. It's a story I've retold in various settings to different audiences large and small. I'm grateful to my elders who retold stories often enough for me to remember them; grateful for friends and family who fill my life with new stories and new hope; grateful for the spirit which is music.

Friends make us grateful
Like the shepherds and wise men
Choosing to be there
Darkness is a threat
Only when there's no hope left
Of returning light
Deeds performed daily
Grow out of love, dreams, service
Thoughts become action
